Manchesters of the World

As Chris Smith and Liz Peel visit and document 52 Manchesters in 52 weeks across 5 continents, they’ll be interviewing the people connected with the name of Manchester, creating a visual record and collecting contemporary historical items from each one to develop an archival collection of Manchesters from across the world. They’ll also be distributing to each Manchester a box of items individual to Manchester, England, as a symbiotic exchange.

The photograph of the Manchester skyline in the background of this page was taken by Andrew Brooks from the roof of one of the tallest University of Manchester buildings. Looking over the city you can see Upper Brook Street to the right, with the Aquatic Centre in the foreground. Looking beyond you see the red glow of the Palace Hotel just to the left of centre. The central area of Manchester is book-ended by the Beetham Tower on the left and the City Tower on the right.
